Meet Behavioral Treatment Service's Staff

Terri Muegerl LMSW/Owner

Terri received her Masters degree in Social Work from Walla Walla College and her Bachelors degree in Social Work from Idaho State University. Her experience has been working with juvenile delinquents, juvenile sex offenders, developmentally delayed children and adults, and mentally ill children and adults. She has worked in both in-patient and out-patient settings, with these populations developing necessary experience in utilizing therapeutic approaches in groups and one-on-one. Terri has always believed to be most effective with a client, the team approach is the method that will see the most lasting change. Often mental health professionals will get frustrated that the client will be showing changes in self-defeating behaviors, only to be put back in the same situations that contributed to those negative behaviors. She believes a team work approach will incorporate all supports in an individual’s life so that the whole system changes not just the individual.
Terri also believes giving back to the community when ever she can. She volunteered her time in a youth ministry/outreach program for over five years meeting the needs of youth in an outdoor setting. She also served as a Special Olympic Coach and has a real heart for reaching out to others.

Joe Andersen LPC/Clinican

I was born in Guatemala and spent my first 13 years on this picturesque country where I spoke Spanish.  I then moved up to the States where my dad’s side of the family lived.  I am now bi– lingual, fluent in English and Spanish.  I became interested in psychology in high school and want on to get a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Utah.  I was also interested in teaching and proceeded to get a License in teaching at the Secondary level, with an endorsement to teach Spanish, from the University of Phoenix.  After a short time teaching I decided to return to the Psychology field and have recently  received a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in family counseling, from Idaho State University.  Over the years I have worked with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues in various capacities.  My personal philosophy is that individuals function within family systems, therefore my main interest lies in working with families.

Martina Mattie PSR Worker

Martina Mattie was born and raised in Pocatello and is the only child to two local teachers here in Southeast Idaho.  Martina graduated in 2007 from Idaho State University with a Bachelors degree in Speech Language Pathology.  She had originally planned to become a Speech Language Pathologist, but found that she had more of an interest in psychology and behavior.  She later decided to explore the field of Psycho Social Rehabilitation and has since found her work to be very rewarding.  Martina has always been passionate about helping people and loves working with children.  She has been employed by Behavioral Treatment Services for approximately six months and enjoys working with her fellow co-workers very much.  Martina looks forward to the future and possibly continuing her education in Counseling, but has not decided as of yet.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends and watching lots and lots of movies!

Ginger Mitchell PSR/Service Coordnator Supervisor
I supervise the PSR program and the Services Coordination program for this agency. I first worked with Terri in residental treatment, than when we was first starting the agency. I pursued other avenues for a few years and returned to the agency in 2009.

I was born in Dallas, Texas and spent my elementry school years there. i was in the 6th grade when President Kennedy was assassinated, about 15 miles from my home. My family then moved to Colorado where i met and married my husband. My husband and I moved to Idaho and this is where we raised our four children.

I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology from Idaho State University in 1997 and 2004. I have been a juvenile probation officer, director of an adolescent residential treatment center and as a psychologist extender in both a private practice and in mental health hospital. I have training and experience working with juvenile sex offenders and their families. I also work with those who are involved in criminal activites, both adult and adolescents. I enjoy teaching a variety of classes, from parenting classes to cognitive-behavioral therapy groups.

I like to take a cognitive behavioral approach to counseling. I believe that by controlling the thoughts in our minds we are able to control our behaviors. I also believe that each person has the right to make their own decisions but with that right comes the responsibility of accepting the consequences, whether good or bad. My favorite group to work with is adolescents.
